Fostering Diversity in Your Company and your Customers

Companies that build an inclusive workforce create a competitive advantage both with the quality of staff hired and the ability to connect to a broader group of customers. Creating a diverse and inclusive environment takes time and energy, it does not just happen by itself. One of the ways to foster an inclusive workforce and customer base needs to be done through continual feedback. Market research online communities are a great tool used for gathering feedback and engaging both staff and customers. MROC's ensure everyone is heard and greater understanding is reached.

Diversity and inclusion requires a company to rethink their mission statement and policies to both build and sustain an environment built on diversity and inclusion. The benefits diverse companies experience are tremendous. Diversity creates a positive employee experience, and allows greater understanding of customer bases that might have been overlooked in the past.

Diversity also attracts greater talent. In a recent Glassdoor study they found that, “A diverse workplace proved important to a majority of white workers, but it was of paramount importance to minority job seekers: 72% of women (v. 62% of men), 89% of African Americans, 80% of Asians, and 70% of Latinos ranked workforce diversity as important in their job search.” This means that when a talented minority job seeker is looking for a company to work with, odds are they will go with the company that is more diverse and inclusive.

“Organizations with above-average gender diversity and levels of employee engagement outperform companies with below-average diversity and engagement by 46% to 58%.” - Fast Company

Not only do companies that embrace diversity and inclusion excel in recruiting talented hires, they also outperform the companies that are not inclusive. A study by Fast Company found that, “Organizations with above-average gender diversity and levels of employee engagement outperform companies with below-average diversity and engagement by 46% to 58%.” By creating an inclusive culture where employees feel respected, valued, and comfortable being themselves will inevitably result in a thriving business.

It is not enough to just hire a diverse staff, your company also needs to create ways to engage the staff to share their perspectives so that there is a mutual understanding of the diverse perspectives within the company and your customers. We believe that market research online communities, also known as experience management platforms, are great ways to engage on a regular basis with both staff and customers.

Market research online communities are easy to use, simply create a survey and send it out to your community members or a specific sample within that community. If you want to find out more about the results gathered from the survey, you can invite members to participate in a discussion, whether it be a private discussion or a group discussion.

It seems clear that diversity within the workplace is the way of the future. Both for creating happier more enjoyable workplaces, and for tapping into various sources of information and perspectives which inevitably lead to greater company growth.
