Easy to Use are Not Easy to Make
In a recent article Arita Roy shares his experience in an article entitled What 2 Years of Android Development Have Taught Me the Hard Way. In the article he looks at the key things he learned in helping develop a solid product that was both easy to use as well as provided a good user experience.
Arita writes how the interface should have key elements in the design. He writes, “Design a clean, simple and beautiful interface that is easy on the eyes. You should not just think like a developer, rather you should concentrate on igniting the hidden designer inside you.” By creating an easy, clean user interface you ensure that the customer will keep coming back for more and you will tend to win more users over.
Arita’s article goes on to highlight a key element in any good product design, and that is that you will fail continuously and nothing is ever going to be perfect from the get go. He writes how using analytics is key to understanding where you are failing and that even the best code written is going to fail. The key being that you recognize the failures and learn to fix them, and continuously are seeing what is going wrong and right through the analytics and that you continue to improve.
Like any good product, Arita writes how you need to be a marketer and start thinking like one. Creating a good product is not enough, he states that some of the best products have died because of poor marketing, while some less than products have gone on to see massive success all as a result of marketing. He writes, “But before starting your marketing campaigns, ensure that your app is absolutely stable with all features ready.”
Test, test and when you are done, test again!
Another key element is what he names rule number 12, which is “Test, test and when you are done, test again!” He states how this should be at the top of your list. Whether it be an app or product, you need to spend as much time as possible testing, and creating various stressors to see whether the product can survive.
While the article is seemingly heavy on the technical talk that only a coder would fully appreciate, the article does illustrate key factors that every company should heed. This concept of creating a robust product or service is why we created our market research online community software and why we believe it is applicable both for physical and virtual products. Whether the client is a tech company whose products are apps or websites, or a company that produces physical products, the concerns and principles are essentially the same. For a product or service to thrive it needs to strive for perfection, and the road to perfection comes through failing your way to success and understanding the end user. We believe that our Market Research Online Community (MROC) software can give you the competitive advantage you need to develop your best product.
